Default boost ref. pressure regulator vs. stock

Guess this maybe a mixed question but is it better to use a boost ref. regulator like 1:1 or just stick with a stock one, which is easier for tuning? this is going on a JY 5.3 turbo build for a 72 c10 for a friend thanks

I use the stock LM7 truck 5.3L FPR, it is vacuum/boost referenced but not quite 1:1. It's also not very consistent in boost. I might try replacing it to see if that helps. An aftermarket unit is probably ideal.
