Fuel starvation problem
Fuel starvation problem Last week the fuel pump in my car started to get really noisy. A few days later the car started stumbling anywhere above 3K RPM. So I assumed that the fuel filter was plugged. Today I changed it but it didnt change anything. The pump is still loud and the car still stumbles. I haven't had a chance to get a fuel pressure gauge on it yet. Anyone have any ideas? The car is a 2000 SS with a 255L walbro in the tank. Thanks
I just put a fuel pressure gauge on it and drove it around. 55psi at idle but as soon and I get more than 1/2 throttle the pressure just drops like a rock. I saw it drop below 15psi. Im thinking its probably the pump which kinda pisses me off because the walbro is only a year old. Any thoughts?

I've seen stock fuel pumps do it. When you say stumble above 3k, does it feel like the power basically goes away? The other possibility is that something may have found it's way to the inlet of the pump and took it out. Is there a sock or some kind of a screen on the pump?

Found the problem. The sock on the fuel pump was so full of crap it was black. I took it off and the problem went away. I then went down to Autozone and got a sock for a 5.0 Mustang. It was a perfect fit for the walbro. So all is good.
