Bad fuel pump?
Im looking to buy a 01 SS but the owner says it has a bad fuel pump so theres no way for me to hear it running any ideas on how to tell if its in running condition without being able to start it?

He is trying to save your pocketbook. Every seller promises the world and most are lying through their teeth. Trust no one. A walbro pump is about $100-150. Mechanic shouldn't charge but a couple hundred to install it if the owner is incapable. If he is selling you a non-running car then the price better reflect that. If he is trying to get a couple hundred under full price then he is looking for a naive buyer.

Caveat Emptor!
On TBI/carb cars you could spray some fuel or starter fluid into the plenum and fire without a fuel pump. I don't know if I would try that with a LS1 style intake.
And for $1500-2000 it sounds like there are a lot of other problems. If you're buying it for a project car where you're doing to do a lot of work anyway... then yes. It would be fine as long as the body is straight and in good shape.
