Possible fuel pump failure?

Possible fuel pump failure? I have a 2000 Z28 with 136k, the engine is pretty much stock except for minor stuff like the SLP intake, and a performance programming kit done by the previous owner.
Here is my issue, sometimes when I start the car, I noticed the check gauges light is on and my fuel level is on E, I turn the car off and back on again and everything is fine, if I prime the pump first (turn the key halfway before starting it) it works fine.
Nothing runs rough, no misfires, no codes.
So what can cause this? am I going to need a fuel pump? or is something else?
any advise is greatly appreciated.

It's a glitch in the sending unit, my 2001 Z28 driver (185k miles) does the same thing especially when under 1/2 tank. It will drop to zero sitting at a stop light & if I move the car slightly it starts reading again. Just a nuisance.
