Fuel Pump went out

Fuel Pump went out i started up my car, and went for a cruise. About 3 minutes into it, i got on it and it started acting funny. id give it gas and it sputter and buck. came to a stop sign, and it idle slighty rough. at that point i looked at my fuel pressure gauge. needle was at 8 psi
was able to get it back to my house. my fuel gauge reads almost empty. could that be the issue? not enough fuel for the pump? i can hear it prime. i already bought the racetronix pump and hot wire kit just incase because it has to be done eventually with me running a wet shot.
also doing the trap door mod. read some threads. anyone have some tips and pointers?
