Default what triggers the fuel pump?

First car is a 98 camaro.

I understand that the gray wire gives ground when the fuel pump needs to run, but what makes it trigger the gray wire?
I'm working on rewiring the fuel pump in my race only car and want to trigger it myself and I am just wondering how the pcm decides to trigger it. It doesn't look like the oil pressure sender is connected to the pcm, so I don't think that is a factor.

Not for sure, but doesn't the key have something to do with it?

The ecu triggers the relay which powers the pump

Initially it will prime for a few seconds on key on, after that if the crank is rotating the pump will be energised.

This is for safety reasons, there is little reason to deviate from this.
