Return Line Size
My tank does not have a provision for a return line, but I see that I can buy a fuel pickup unit for my car for short money that does include a 1/4" return connector.
My research tells me that I need a 3/8" feed line and a 5/16 return. for simplicity sake I see that I can buy pre-bent fuel lines for my car in those sizes.
My question is can I run the 5/16 size return line from the engine all the way back to the tank and step it down to the 1/4" return size on the factory fuel pick up. It's only a 1/16" of an inch difference, but not understanding the principles of fuel injection pressures makes me want to be careful. What impact does the return line size have on the pressure regulation if any?
I understand there would be a 4" long 1/4" bottleneck at the very end of the 5/16" line, but would this be any better than a 10-12 foot 1/4" bottleneck running all the way fro the engine. Logic tells me it's probably bad either way, but I figured I would ask.
Thanks
I'd stay away from a 1/4" return with a Bosch 044 or you might have fuel pressure problems at idle.
Any thoughts about attaching an internal Walbro F90000267 to my existing pick up? It's less expensive than the Bosch external and just as effective. I could weld a rod to the pick up plate and strap the pump to it.
If I'm pulling the tank to install the return fitting why not install an internal pump? Less noise and the pump will run cooler.
