does there exist such a thing? (switching fuel and computers on the fly)
there was a kit that had a 2nd fueltank that your fuel lines would switch over to when the Nitrous was engaged- The theory was that you'd have 103 octane in the spare tank, and wouldn't have to constantly waste money on high octane fuel when you were driving daily.
My idea
what if I had 2 tanks in my car-one with regular fuel and one with high octane (103 for example), now what if I had 2 computers for my engine, one that was tuned for the regular fuel tank, and the other for the high-octane fuel tank. I'd just flip a switch, and I'd be on a higher-octane fuel AND have the engine's comp tuned for that high octane.
It'd allow me to save money on $$ when I'm weekend cruising, and with a flip of the button, I'd be prepped for the race track or rice eating
is this just a crazy idea, or has someone done it already? I can pick up an ECM from a 2000 TA at the 'yard for $60 and one from a 99 Camaro z28 for the same price. I was an electrical engineer at my early stages in my college career, so wiring up a switchboard to computers wouldn't be beyond my skills. switching fuel lines and fuel tanks on the otherhand is beyond my current skills as I have no idea how I would go about doing that.
right now this is just an idea, with no real motivation to develop it beyond exercizing my creative and fabricating skills, but hey, if people think it can have a use, I might add it into my longterm plans for my hybrid.
