Using methanol injection to help IATs Hey guys, so I'm not sure if there's a better place for this thread, but I stuffed a modified 6.0 in a chevy express and now I'm having IAT issues, I put a heat shield around my intake and that helped quite a bit, but I'm still seeing almost 140-150 degree IATs if sitting for more than a minute or so in just 80 degree weather. Anyway, I'm considering methanol injection, but I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for using it to help with IATs; I'm not seeing any controllers that allow IAT as a parameter

Sounds like your sucking in engine bay air,, can you get some exterior free air with some tube?
The methanol isn't really an option if you want to drive extended periods with it on all the time.
Youll get tired of feeding it Methanol if its a daily...
Cermacote is a good thing..
it makes a huge difference on radiated heat..

So many years ago when fans were a bigger thing,, I recall someone building a AIr scoop in to the hood,
they ended up with about a 4"x30" slot across the hood, that fed in to a NACA duct sort of shaped collector
attached under the hood, The van at the time had a 460 in it IIRC,, his problem was he just coudn't get air volume
with the stock air cleaner.. And obviously a open air cleaner was going to be sucking 200 degree air..
If I remember right he built it out of 2 hoods, one on top of the other,, the upper one narrowed and shortened to become the top
of the "scoop"....

Thinking about it,, if you did it right half of the scoop could be the air intake and half of it to just ram cool air in to the engine bay..
Kill 2 problems at once.. and hoods are cheap from crash parts suppliers in the black..

Right now, the intake picks up air from just under the front of the hood, so I figured it would be getting pretty cool air, but boy was I wrong. There are 3 ways I can think of to pickup outside air, but I'm trying to keep an unassuming look so that limits my options slightly. That being said, I'd love to run a hood scoop feeding an intake, and will probably end up doing so if I can't find a better alternative. I could probably make the insert out of fiberglass and just cut a hole in my stock hood, does anyone know of any good writeups on the engine side of an intake like that? The other 2 options I see are through the bumper, but it'd probably be too long and twisty; or through the fender, but I'd like to avoid that one

Ye if you do it just right,, the hood you put on top looks stockish, you just end up with a
dark slot in the front,,, Wish it hadn't been so many years ago I don't remember if it was in Hot rod
or some other mag...

Are you saying I could basically weld one good on top of another and have the air come in straight from the front between the two? That's the picture I'm getting from your explanation. If so, that sounds like just what I'm looking for
