Fuel pump lock ring removal tip. Just a little tip on removing the fuel pump on a 99+ Firebird/Camaro. Stop using basic hammers and screwdrivers on the lock ring. I've read more posts from people saying they've beat on the thing forever with no success. Do this instead. Buy a 3 pound sledge and a masons chisel. Seriously, the sledge has enough weight behind it to actually do something while the pitiful claw/ball peen/framing/geologists hammer or whatever you have lying around in the box and that 1oz plastic handle flathead are about as useful as trying to kick the pump off with your foot. Plus the chisel is hefty and solid thick metal.

That lock ring didn't even try to fight me. 4-6 whacks with that sledge/chisel and the lock ring was loose and less to get it back locked again.

I did want to buy the tool, but I couldn't justify spending 100+ on Ebay or double that new on some sites. That sucker came off smooth as butter though. For anyone that wants it though, this is the proper factory tool part number right from the service manual, j-39765
