Default Fuel pump

Having issues with the fuel pump. Checked relay and fuse and both are good. You can hear the pump kick on when you turn the key to the on position but no fuel at the fuel rail or pressure. Placed a jumper wire on the relay to have constant power to the pump while I hit the tank still nothing. You can hear the gas in the tank gurgling but still nothing. Time to replace the fuel pump? Or is their something else I can check before I replace it?

First thing to do when posting is to let those who might respond as to what year fbody. There is a year specific fuel pump assembly for a 98 with a metal tank and a year specific fuel pump assembly for year 1999 - 2002 with a plastic tank.

Check to make sure fuel filter isn't plugged. It might be 20 years old and never replaced. Along with the fuel filter, it's possible the in tank filter has completely disintegrated and has plugged the fuel filter.

Disconnect the feed fuel line on the filter and see if you get fuel. Reconnect and disconnect the exit port on the pump to check if you get fuel. Reconnect exit port on the fuel filter and disconnect the return fuel line on the filter see if you get fuel from the the return port. If you get fuel thru the return but not thru the filter, the filter is plugged.

You might have to remove the fuel pump assembly to diagnose if you get no fuel pre - fuel filter.

Gurgling in the tank could mean the intank fuel pressure regulator is ruptured and/or a hose is lose on the feed line from the pump up to the feed tube on the inside of top of the fuel pump assembly hat.

If you go this far to diagnose I would replace the pump and the fuel pump regulator. Both are perhaps as old as 20 years and are due for a replacement. Same goes for the fuel filter.

Search this forum for instructions how to remove the pump without having to drop the tank.

You might delete your double post.
