I’m doing a LS swap on a 79 Camaro. My question is, is anyone running a in line fuel pump? How did you route it? And is it bad to have the fuel pump on a angle? My thought was I was going to run the lines above the axle of course where the frame is above the tank, then have the fuel pump on the frame where the stock fuel line holes where but the fuel pump would have to sit at an angle on there for it to fit. It would be angled with the line from the tank being higher than the line running to the filter/ regulator, so the engine side of the pump facing more toward the ground by about 20-30 degrees AT MOST , is that bad? Also...everything that I have read says the pump should be below the lowest point on the tank if possible, so Is is going to struggle to suck fuel if I run the line where the stock lines where, up and around the axle?
As long as there is fuel to the pump it will be fine. They make all kinds of angled AN fittings so you can get the line above the axle with plenty of room. Make templates with string or wire to make the run. Hope this helps, good luck and give updates.
The pump does need to be below the lowest level of the tank if you want it to last, They don't like pulling fuel. The line routing doesn't really matter except for initial prime. Basically you'll have a siphon type setup, The fuel line can be higher just as it is in the diagram and it will have no effect.
