Default Fuel system issues

I have an 04 1500 Silverado the engine is no longer stock but I am getting a lean condition. I’ve gotten an upgraded fuel pump that should be more than enough for the engine. The line are stock sizes but the intake manifold isn’t stock. There was not pressure regulator when the truck was stock but ive heard it was located in the tank along with the pump assembly. I want to put a fuel pressure regulator and see I can fix it that way but I’m not sure how I should put it. There is no return line on the pump and there wasn’t one before the upgrades. Do I need a return line on the truck? Can I just put the regulator with a pressure gauge on the feed line before the rails? I’ve had a shop tune the truck to run since the engine is built and cam is bigger. It ran good for a few months then engine light came on. The same code I have is the same code I got before the overhaul was done when the truck was stock. Any ideas?

Everything is new on the truck as far as bigger injectors, fuel rails, new cats, new o2 sensors, new pump. Not sure what else it could be down to.

Your not going to get much help with the way you have written your thread. You need to be detailed in your explanation. What is the truck doing? What code is it throwing? When you say the engine is not stock What does that mean? List all aftermarket parts you have installed, and you cant just say bigger injectors, list detailed parts. Also did you have the truck tuned for whatever parts you installed.

it’s a 5.3 crate motor. It was supposed to be dyno tuned to accommodate the upgrades but not a crazy tune just basic tune to get it to run and drive correctly. My main problems are the truck over heats and doesn’t start on the first crank but always on the second crank but still struggles to come up to idle. It sounds sluggish on the initial start, but I press and hold the throttle slightly then let go it’ll idle normal. I’ve got 36lb injectors and a sheet metal intake. I don’t think anything internally is going to have an effect on why it’s running lean.

again answer all the questions i have listed above, and the motor would not have been dyno tuned. Your ecu needs to tuned to accommodate for the parts you have installed. If you did not have your ecu tuned and added aftermarket parts then it 100 percent can run lean. Again answer all the questions in details I have listed. *Example my truck has bosch 210 lb injectors, I have dual Walbro 525 fuel pumps. This is how every part you have installed needs to be listed.
