Re-fueling problem
Maybe this isn't the right forum, because my question isn't about go-fast fueling, it's about getting gas into the gas tank of my 2002 SS. When I start fueling the gas nozzle clicks off almost immediately. I have to put the gas in very slowly, and I mean very slowly. Thinking maybe it's the gas tank vent which would mean pulling down the gas tank. Maybe there's other things I could try to fix this problem? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

This has been a semi-common problem plaguing 4th gens for a long time. Some folks have found that sticking a straightened coat hanger wire down the fill neck will allow them to push the flapper back down and allow for normal fueling. Just be careful when doing this if you have already added some fresh gas, as any fuel that might still be in the neck will come squirting back out when tank pressure is released.
The issue seems to be poor tank venting (thus pressure build-up), but no one single cause has ever been identified as the primary problem in all cases. Normally this condition is triggered by allowing the tank to run below a certain point (sometimes below 1/4, sometimes even higher), so if you refuel at 1/4 or 1/3 tank or higher it's not usually a problem.

Thanks for your response. I'll try that and see if I can correct the problem.
