Default Gasoline?

Does it matter what I get at the pump? I assume premium, but is there a brand preference out there? I'm typically a Shell guy and have been using the new V-Power with good results.

Thanks

Well.. I can only get 92 where I am. Whenever I fill up, I always get the highest grade possible.

When I first bought the car, not knowing any better. I tried running 87 to be cheap. My car was knocking and pinging so bad. So yea.. run PREMIUM

In New Mexico the pump premium is 91, so pretty low. Which gas station shouldn't matter. Many different companies will often times get their gas from the same refinery so it's up to you where to go.

I used to use the Sunoco ultra 94, but now it is only 93 octane. I heard most gas stations get their gas at the same place. But I also heard from the same source, that Mobli and sunnoco only get their gas.

What I have since learned about this is that the stations do in fact get their gas from the same refineries, but the difference lies in what they then add to that gas; Detergents, cleaners etc. So for instance generic gas stations/non-brand name typically don't have additives. Places like Shell, and the like, add various degrees of additives.

So in a way it does matter where you get your gas .... IMO.

i would NOT recomend getting gas from the "cheap" places like wal-mart, albertsons, HEB, ect. ive personally bought from wally world and albertsons and got bad gas where my truck would barely run, and several people i know have had similar experiences with the above mentioned.

I have always used Sunoco 94 or 93 from Citgo. Those two seem to give me the best gas mileage. I used to use shell all the time, but I don't get good gas mileage out of it.

Been running 93 since I bought it in 98. Don't know what it runs like on anything else.

Shell V-Power in my 2002 SS has given me 2-3 more miles per gallon consistently. I used to run 93 octane from Amoco, Chevron, Texaco (now Shell), or Shell, whatever was closest. I always averaged 260-280 miles per tank. I keep a notebook in the glovebox and log everything in it, and since switching to V-Power I've consistently been above 300 miles per tank, most of the time in the 310-330 range. On one business trip from Birmingham to Jackson, MS and back, I got 368 miles on one tank.

any major name brand is fine,
if possable ALWAYS steer clear of mom and pop places, places like that have been known to do crazy **** like water down the gas. put 87 octane in all three pumps and the only way you can find out is the hard way

mobil, shell, sunoco,bp,ammco are all fine 99.9 % of the time your gonna get good gas

Wow, so it increased your milage too? Interesting. What do you think makes this happen?

Just curious...

Shell advertises that it has more detergents in it than other brands. I presume those detergents are keeping the intake valves and injectors cleaner, thus giving smoother fuel flow, better atomization of the fuel, and so on. The better the injectors do their job, and the less deposits on the valves, the more the engine can perform as it was designed to, and the more efficient the burn.

Car feels better on V-Power as well, it's marginal at best, but I feel in high load, low-rpm, heat-soaked conditions that I'm getting a little less pinging.
