Default carb/ls1 tune port conversion

I currently have a 450 horse carberated sbc in my 67 rs. This weekend I ahelped my friend pull his 383 stroker out of his mangled 3rd gen. My question is can I fit the ls1 style tune port set up onto my ride. If so what do I have to do. Is there a wirering kit I can by with a standalone, or would I have to convert his computer with all the exess crap.. Please input would be apreciated....

If you're asking if you can use an LS1 style intake manifold and injection setup on your small block, no, that simply won't work. Port layout for the LS1 is completely different (no side-by-side intake or exhaust ports).

You can, however, fit an entire LS1 motor in your car. That requires a complete conversion though.

However, since you mention the third gen Tuned Port setup - yes, you can put the TPI setup from your friend's third gen on to your small block chevy. There are a number of aftermarket wiring harnesses to do so (Painless, for example). Depending on what year TPI setup it is, you may have to slot the 4 center intake manifold holes to bolt them on to your heads, but other than that, everything else drops right on. You will have to make fuel system modifications (your carb fuel pressure is 6-13 psi, TPI setups require 43.5 psi and a good size return line).

For information about the Third Gen TPI setups, I'd recommend checking out the forums at http://www.thirdgen.org - very good info there.

Note that TPI is *completely different* than LS1's. Even though they're both "port injected", hardware-wise, they are completely different. The only things that they have in common are that the fuel injectors are physically compatible (a 30# SVO injector would work in either setup, for example). Other than that, there is no compatibility.

yes. Its a tpi set up, sorry I know this is a ls1 based sight, I am not used to thinking in new terms, I am only 19, but never got into the newer sbc's. The set up I am thinking of using is off a 3rd gen (not ls1) set up. Know that I think of it I remember the head port set up on the ls1. Crazy know that I think of it theres alot of differences in the designs of the two engine, excluding the general internal set up.

-- so painless does offer a wirering conversion?
I have seen it but only with there kits, also does anyone know if I can tune this kit, and will I have to install any emission equitment or can I just change the fuel system, hook up the intake set up, plug and play?

thanks!!!!
