fuel filter
If it is a LS1 car their is a small valve on drivers side fuel rail that after takeing off the cap, you can push in and it will bleed presure. In the past I have never let out the FP before changing the filter, I just take it off and what little preasure their is, just disapates through the fittings. good luck
Yeah be careful bleeding the schrader valve cause gas will get on your engine as well. I just put a catch can under the filter and just let her drain, just undo the filter quick if you dont have a lift so you can get away from the fumes ASAP.

I have a lift at home in my garage, which will no doubt make it easiest, but I haven't done this before and needed to know if there were any tricks I should know about. Thanks though.
Safest way to depressurise the system is to remove the fuel pump fuse, engine will stall after 2-3 seconds.
2nd way you can do is take your gas cap off the fuel neck for a second or 2 until you hear it release pressure.
