That would be the correct hose try a coat hanger or a stiff piece of wire... but be carefull not to puncture it, although it wouldnt really matter too much.

That will not work. There is another type of a check valve onthe top of the tank. I checked this tank and it flows one way,-- out of the tank. I had no other problems with this tank so I no it is correct. You can try and put a longer hose on the tube and try and blow nothing should go in and if you try and put a vacume on it there is a samll amount of air that you can pull. Not sure of the correct operation of this valve. But it would more than likly close if fuel were to get to it. This might be some type of a over pressure type valve.
As you can see in the other picture there is a line that goes to the evap system this might be you problem here.

Here is a picture of the filler neck check valve.

Were you ever able to pull you fault codes?

Its still doing the same thing so it must be clogged. Any opinions on how to unclog it? Thanks

Here not sure if this will help I checked the resistance on the evap soilenoid-valve. (connector with the 2 wires) red&white on my spare tank and it reads 24.4 ohms. It is one of the 2 connectors shown here. One with only 2 wires. I would at least try and disconnect and make sure evrything looks ok, if you cant read the resistance. Give that a shot might point you in a direction.

Did a search for this code, people say they replace the gascap and that fixes it. That doesnt logicaly explain why i couldnt gas up my car.

well I could see the cap to be at fault if the tank would not maintain the pressure like it is ment to. Maybe the filler neck check valve just stuck, which would cause this problem. I guess you just have to see how things go.

Took a ride today and everything acted normal. No problems at all. Seems like clearing the code did it. I filled up the car
