Default Octane Differences

Howdy! Just curious as to how big of a difference and what kind of differences some of yall have experienced with different octane and which rating yall recommend and what brand and why. Thanks a lot! I know on dynos on truck chassis vehicles, octane differences didn't change much on the power rating, but i know when i put a different octane into our HD, i can feel a huge difference, same thing with my sisters crappy *** 02 mustang GT. No LS1 yet in the family, but thats why im asking cause im considering one. Also what kinda MPG difference do you get between the octane ratings?

I use 91octane as recomended by the owners manual, I wouldn't consider putting anything less in my T/A

Well, recently I barrowed a friends scanner to mess with timing (just got a timing tuner). And found out that on stock timing under WOT I was seeing 4-10* of knock retard(computer is retarding the timing 4-10* = BAD). I have new plugs/wires and they are gapped correctly. So I found a station that has 100 octain and mixed it about 50/50 with 91 octain(what I ALWAYS run) and ran the car again. On the new run with the 50/50 solution I now have 0* of KR(knock retard) . I was also able to add an additional 3* of timing(2*base, 1*WOT) with 0* of KR. Apearently my engine on stock timing was pinging and I was unable to tell, I didn't hear any abnormal noises due to the computer retarding the timing and my loud exhaust. So by runing a higher octain I'm able to run not just 3* but a total of 6-12* of timing because its not retarding the timing under full throttle. Hope this helps some. Oh and I usually run 91 from chevron(might be the problem with the 91 gas, dunno).
