Default octane boost = race gas?

will dumping a bunch of octane boost into my engine be the same as a race gas?

or is octane booster a cheap fix that has limits?

Octane boost has very small limits...2 points of octane is reasonable. Race gas will gain 9 to 20ish depending on what you buy.

keep in mind too that octane "points" are measured in tenths, not full numbers. For example, if an octane booster claims to up the octane rating 3 "points", it won't take a tank of 91 octane to 94, it will take it to 91.3

I personally think you should just get racing gasoline if is available to you.

Octane Booster sold in the auto parts store is pretty much useless. It leaves orangish-brown deposits on your plugs and 02 sensors, and only raises octane level by tenths. So now your 93 is 93.3 or whatever. Not worth it. If you're looking to convert 93 into "race fuel", a company called Price Chemical sells nitromethane based additives that increases octane rating significantly. Also your local hardware store carries Xylene which you can use as an octane booster. There's a octane booster recipe out on the net. Or you could just find a gas station that sells GT100 or equivalent and be done with it.
