fuel filter causing problems?

what are the odds that my fuel filter would cause a pretty much stock engine to lay down above 5k? it was very hard to move air through, but the new one easily allowed me to breathe through it. would the stock pcm settings pull timing at the sight of low fuel psi for x rpm? i only ask because i trap almost 88 in the 1/8, but only 108 in the 1/4. i could feel and WATCH the car lay down in the upper rpms. thanks in advance..

It could be dirty enough to be giving you some problems. I assume you put a new one in, did you feel any difference?

Restricted fuel filters will cause lean conditions (low fuel pressure). I change mine every 30k to prevent this. How many miles do you have?

yeah, it *feels* stronger at the top of 2nd and 3rd...i am going back to the track tonight (weather permitting) to confirm.
