Nasty Tank setup?'s
I'm running the nasty tank in my car and I'm having a couple of problems with it. The custom sending unit is not reading correctly. When I'm on E and I go to fill up it only takes 6 gallons to top off. The second issue i'm having is venting the tank. I'm running a piece of -6 up to a vented filter in the fender above the filler neck. I had a one way rollover valve in line before the vented filter but with the valve it would take me days to fill up. Since I took the valve out I can fill up fine but when I take a sharp turn the gas sloshes out the breather. I'm thinking of finding a filler neck from another car that has a small line that comes up parallel to the main filler and ties into the filler neck so it will vent better and still be sealed up when I put the gas cap on and put the rollover valve back in line. I just want to get your ideas on how you did yours and how your sending units are reading.
Thanks again,
Adam
I ended up putting a 1/4" ball valve on the end of the line and mounted it in front of the gas cap. I cut the handle down a little to make it fit.
When I fill I crack it open. After I'm done, I close it. Haven't had any issues with it this way. No excessive pressure or vacuum on the tank. Just takes a little longer to fill up.
It may not be the optimal set-up and I'm sure someone will have something to say about it. It works for me though.
Got it from Home depot. You know, the other autoparts store
.
Can't help you on the sending unit. I have the old tank and use the stock sending unit. Mine reads fine.
They call them VentValves and it looks like there are a couple different styles. I'm gonna be doing my tank soon and would like to figure this out before I put the setup in the car.
