Default Quick Question please!

Hey guys....Ok heres the deal....Im running a lil rich becasue of a bad cat, so im getting pretty bad gas milage, especially around the city....heres whats goin on tho....if im running around town, at lets say a half tank....When i stop and shut the car off and go in somewhere to pick up somthing, then start it back up...the gas guage is sometimes lower than what it was when i turned it off......to my knowledge, i dont have any visual gas leaks....I dont smell gas except on my clothes sometimes becasuse of the richness factor....so my real question, is what can make it loose gas from turning the car off and starting it back up after moderate drives?

The answer is fairly simple really. I've done a fuel pump install and when you do you can really understand my concept. Your sending unit measures fuel capacity at the rear of the tank. Therefore whenever you are on an incline or accelerating or even driving all of your fuel will be concentrated to the rear of the tank...thus keeping a higher level than actually what it has. The gauge works off of an electric pulse and is updated whenever it reaches a certain level. When you stop the car, in most cases you are level and the fuel will level out in the tank. The gauge resets when you turn the key forward and the new level of fuel is shown on your gauge. Park you car sometime on a steep steep incline and give it an hour and then crank up...i'll bet you the gauge is about a 1/16 higher than when you shut it off...just my .02...Josh. BTW never rule out the fact that their also may be an actual problem...lol (injectors, line leaks...etc).
