Default Draining Tank

Any tips for the best way to drain the gas tank? I need to remove about 10 gallons. I plan to remove the line at the fuel filter, slip a hose over the line and drain it into some gas containers. I presume I should leave the cap on to maintain pressure. Should I turn the ignition on to run the pump or just leave it off? Thanks for any advice.

I took a hypertech fuel pressure gauge, unscrewed it from the hose (leaving the hose). Screwed the hose onto the fuel rail (LS1 car) and put some wires on a switch and plugged them (I ground down a set of crimp connectors to make them fit into the terminals) into the fuel pump relay terminals. I stuck a battery charger on the battery and just flipped the switch and pumped the fuel out into fuel jugs. We didn't even have to lift the car off of the ground.

That is a cool solution!!!!! Only works for electric fuel pump cars, otherwise, you are pumping it out with a siphon pump.

I actually had some success using a very small hose (3/8ths ish) into the fuel neck of my silverado once... I had to remove the filler neck actually, and put the hose in from where the filler tube connect to tank. I had a fuel line blow in tank and had a half tank left to siphon out before I could drop it easily lol.

PS: I hooked the hose up to a small drill driven pump. Be VERY careful not to use an electric drill lol, I cant stress this enough... Use an air powered drill to avoid death.
