Default Toulene :: Octane Booster

Who has used toulene as an octane booster? If so, any negitive affects on the fuel system: pump, braided hose, injectors, etc?

When I was into Buick GN's they used this a bunch. Home made octane booster.

The basics are never exceed 30% of Tuolene/Xylene to 70% fuel. The reason is that you can create cold start problems where it won't idle well and have a tough time starting. Every gallon of T/X you need to put in 1 ounce of MMO (Marvel Mystery Oil) as a fuel lubricant.

Tuolene is 114 octane
Xylene is 117 octane

So....
3 gallons of Xylene (117)
7 gallons of 92 octane
3 ounces of MMO
yields 10 gallons of 100 octane (99.5 actually)

Or...
3 gallons of Xylene (117)
7 gallons of 100 octane
3 ounces of MMO
yields 10 gallons of 105 octane unleaded

that about sums it up perfectly.

I've read it can be rather harsh on your fuel system. I guess a few companies use it to mix 100+ octane unleaded and they've noticed increased deterioration to the fuel lines and o-rings. Of course that may be an old wives tale and I don't like spreading mis-information. I'm sure someone here knows alot more about the subject than I do. I looked into it briefly a couple years ago and that's about where it stopped. I decided meth injection was a better option for me.

Sounds good in theory but mixing your own fuel can get a little unnerving. It's like moonshine, it's supposed to be okay but what if it's not done right? Not saying it can't just that if it was so easy how come everyone isn't doing it?
