Default The Fuel Pump Access panel...

Is the best thing ever to be thought of...

A few buddies & I had the entire assembly out in 2 hours. We had to make 1 trip to the hardware store for a Dremel bit, and then had some trouble getting the connections off the lines. Other then that it was a cake walk! Dyno numbers tomorrow!

Best advice is to get someone with small hands yet strong fingers to reach in and disconnect the 2 click style connections that are sorta under the panel still. I did a search here and found a few very good write ups but I can't find the exact one I used.

O.K thanks. maybe I will have to lower the tank alittle so I can get my hands in there.

I see alot of people do that... I did a racetronix kit on my car and dropped the tank, removing the catback was by far the worst part.... I just don't understand what the big deal is with dropping the tank out. With a 2nd set of hands to help with the filler neck, it's really not that big a deal.

If you had a 98 you will feel different about dropping that tank lol. Lot of cars have have access holes from the factory to get the pumps out. If you do it nice and cover it up right I dont see the big deal, that metal is so thin there its not like its going to weaken the car by cutting a hole there. M6 cars have a huge hole where the shifter goes through and A4 cars dont

I agree.. if you were to make a nice trap door out of alum with a frame and whatnot, that's one thing, but just cutting a fat hole there and leaving it... is hack.

I dont think anyone is just leaving the hole open when they are done, at least I wouldnt think so

I dont think 25 years from now someone is going to lift the carpet at a barret jackson auction and say 'wow this car isnt worth big money because someone cut an acess hole for a fuel pump'

But if you have a super mint stock car and the pump went out I would drop the tank most likely, but if you are upgrading to a walbro most likely you will have to pull it out a few times so the hole is a good choice IMO..

When it comes time for my fuel pump swap, I'll drop the tank the first time, but once it is out of the way, I'll cut a nice access panel while I'm in there, because I'm pretty sure I'll end up having to mess with something I screwed up...

Exactly the tack I took! I dropped the tank the 1st time to make sure it was flushed/cleaned. I then cut the trap door while the tank was out (easier) for future pump access.

If you have a convertible plan on dropping the tank, or at least 5 or 6 inches down because the pump hits the rear window, no hatch to open.

crazycat, are you saying that the pump will not pull up out of the tank in a convertible?

Access hole is the best thing.98's take alot more cutting but 99+ it's very easy and very helpfull. We've had 2 cars that needed the pumps worked on numerous times. That hole paid for itself.

We always give the option though.Dropping the tank is an extra $200.Most people go with the hole and we make a nice plate to seal it up after.

Kinda like crotchless panties.

Does anyone have a template or dementions on where to cut?
