Cold start poping or backfires

When I cold start the car, I get a couple of loud pops out of the exhaust. My friend said it was lean. I also have a timing tuner for my TNT system. I added 4 degrees of timing to the base for NA. I did this because the computer is locked out a 24 total timing at WOT. Let me know your thoughts?

I think it backfires because it is rich.

See that is what I thought. I need to get this thing tunned for good. I started to think I maybe hurt a valve, but everyone I talk to said it is a fuel issue.

I posted this question on ls1.com about 3 years ago cause my stock 2000 TA did it when it was cold, did it when i'd shift from 1-2 a lot at low rpm. If i can remember right the car runs a tad rich on cold start up, and its just unburnt fuel igniting in the manifolds and exhaust pipes, and its common. every ls1 that i've ever heard (over 50+ of them) does it, including mine, so i wouldnt worry anything about it.
