VIN for CID
I hope this is the right thread for this. I searched but found little or no help for this. I am going to go to the junkyard in an attempt to get a TPI GM setup for my carbed bronco. I need a 350 setup so to have it close to my 351 stuff. Which VIN number should I look at (charecter #8 I think) and what should it be to get the 350 sans the 305?

depends on the junk yard but most of them around here have the engines pulled before they put the cars up in the yard, but if the engine is still in the car just look at the emissions tag on the under side of the hood or rad support, that will have the size of hte engine on there, theres to many vin codes to look up for diffrent engines. it is the 8th diget for the engine tho.

For F-bodies...
The eighth digit of the VIN for a TPI 305 car is "F"
The eighth digit of the VIN for a TPI 350 car is "8"
The only differences between the two are PROMs and injector flow rates.
The 350 uses 24 lb/hr vs the 305's 19 lb/hr.

If you see a VIN "E", that is a 305 TBI.
If you're at a junkyard though and you're going to see the motor before you buy it, why does the VIN matter? People swap motors in those cars ALL the time. I swapped my TPI out for LT1 heads/intake, and then swapped a 350 under it later on. My VIN would have told you it was a 305 TPI car. My buddy put an L98 (350 TPI) into his car, but the VIN said it was a V6 car (originally).
If you know what TPI is enough to be looking for one...I imagine you know what one looks like..

Actually it was a misprint. I am needing the TBI setup to make it work. I am going to put it in place of the carb. Just wanted to know. Does it have the same differences as far as the injectors being the only difference?
