Default What octane to cure pinging?

Well my car pings at around 2k rpm under load. Autotap shows I'm getting some knock retard (sometimes up to 3.87 degrees) at 2k rpm also. A sunoco gas station around here sells 94 octane and 101 race gas (I think thats the octane), my question is should I run the strait race gas or should I mix it 50/50 with 94 octane? What octane should I try to mix to? My compression ratio is 10.8:1. Also I'm running TR-6's gapped at .050 with my H/C setup, I was told this was the correct gap for me, is this true?

What else should I try to keep the car from pinging?

Thanks in advance

Matt

You're getting detonation at 2000 rpm??? you need more than race gas...try tuning..... oyu will have serious problems down the road If you dont get tuning done with that cam...but Higher octane will definately burn better and help with the detonation issue.

The funny thing is, I do have tuning by Mike at Rapid Motorsports with LS1edit. I don't know what to do, I'm going to contact him and see what he thinks. Any other suggestions?

Close your gap to around .043", try that, and you wont need to run full on 101, 94 should be more than stable, but you can add 1:5 101 to 94. I really think the gap is not to good for TR6's. ROT is .005 up or down from preset gap, which TR6 are preset at .035" like I said only rule of thumb but 50 is stretching it.

I'll try regapping the plugs, do you think that could cause me to see as much as 2.29 deg. of KR at 1840 rpm according to Atap? The knock steadily decreases untill it is 0 at 6000 rpm. This knock didn't show up on the dyno. I'm not sure what is going on.

Dyno doesnt place a heavy a load on your car, thats why. It may have been there, maybe not. Talk with tuner like you said...always best to start there.

I have my TR-6's gapped at .40 ... I remember I had originally put them in, a mechanic friend of mine gapped them to the stock gap, which is in the high .50's if I remember correctly. The car was missing and/or detonating all over the place. I think .50 is way to big for the TR-6s and if you brought them down to .40 or .43 you would probably solve your problem. (some people even run .36-.38 on the TR-6's).
