Default Fuel system issues: please help!!

Well i just got back from my tuner and he could not complete the tune once again because the engine isn't getting enough fuel. we didnt even put it on the dyno. the car runs awful at WOT and you can hear some popping noises. Partial throttle is a lot better now tho. I replaced the fuel filter last year (2K miles ago) and put injector cleaner in my tank before i filled up the other day. the tuner told me that it could be something clogging the fuel pump and the "sock" on it that also filters stuff out. Should i try to do this myself? I'll have to drop the tank and take the fuel pump out. everyone said the chance that it's the injectors would be less likely. the tuner said once i fix the problem the car will run even worse because it's tuned best for the fuel it's getting right now. he said the VE tables were really messed up. any advice would be a great help!

ok understand the basics. Fuel itself cleans the area it sprays and cleans the injectors, there really is no need for fuel injector cleaner, HOWEVER, it probably does help get rid of gunk throughout the head/valve area what works even better for that I recommend Sea Foam, they sell it at advance auto parts and other stores.

now, you said you changed the fuel filter, good.

what kind of tune are you running? Open loop/closed loop?? cuz why is he messing with the VE table?

now the really good question, your tuner has a scan tool and tune tool correct? (what program is he using?)
you should have got him to scan the car and look at the injector duty cycle, if its above 85% then you need new injectors.

about dropping the tank, yes you can do it yourself and what you can do to help you is disconnect the fuel filter and drain your fuel into a pan or something and then you can use a 12V battery and run the fuel pump by two wires and attaching them to the proper place in the rear wiring to turn the pump on and that will empty your tank out except 2 gallons i think.

then you can drop the tank inspect the sock (mine was dirty as hell) and decide if you want to go ahead and order a sock, or just order an entire new fuel pump and wiring harness to accomodate for your future fuel needs

www.racetronix.com and go to fuel pumps/kits and buy the $229 complete kit.

hit me up with any other questions you have, it sounds to me as if your tuner is running you around, he should have told you if your injectors are running to high, or if he did...well people forget

I'm pretty sure it's HPtuners that he's using. Not sure if it's open or closed loop. i don't think he messed with the VE tables.. he just showed me that they were really messed up. higher numbers at lower rpms i think... I dont think he's running me around either cuz i got the lifetime retune option and can go back to him for free anytime.... sucks he lives 50 miles away tho. i dont think i can afford to spend another $230 either so i'll probably just get the sock if i need it. what can i look for to see if my fuel pump is bad?

just got off the phone with my tuner: closed loop. he said the injector duty cycle was 91% but he said something like how the higher numbers in the VE table would cause that as well. he also told me he tricked the computer to think that the car had smaller injectors so it would pump more fuel but it did not improve the situation.

I would replace the fuel filter 1st.
Last year + 2K ok is a long time ago really, if you just picked up some bad gas recently....

Then get a tire valve removal tool to remove the 'guts' at the end of the fuel rail , put a long piece of 3/8 hose over the end of the rail, pull the FP fuse & complete the circuit to turn the full pump on with a piece of wire.

This will show if you have good volume of fuel flow....

i will replace the fuel filter and check out this method you mentioned for cleaning the fuel rails. I have another problem now. I put in the walbro pump and drove the car for around 50 miles. Then it wouldn't start at my friends house and i had it towed home. I dropped the tank AGAIN and took the pump out thinking that the hose would have blown off. but everything looks fine! i haven't taken the pump assembly apart but from what i can see there is nothing messed up. what can i do? i checked the ignition wires, they weren't melted or anything...
