Default fuel gauge stopped working....help please

Fuel gage on 99 camaro stopped working. My friend has told me to drop the tank and replace the pump.....which will also replace the sender. is this correct?

Hi, At the module. You have 4 wires. 2 are for the pump, 2 are for the gauge. Under the car, by the forward rear end sheetmetal hump, you have a connector for it. The purple & black wires are for it. Check power to it, purple wire, key on. And check resistance at the black wire to ground. Have good ground at the black wire & power to the purple. If you connected a reostat on those 2 wires after un-plugging it going to the tank sender unit. Going to the gauge side of the plug. Change the reostat & watch the fuel gauge go up & down. Then the tank sensor is bad. Dave
