Minor misfiring problem
My car seems to be misfiring a little bit while idling and while driving at partial throttle between 1000 and 1500 RPMs. She runs like a raped ape when you put your foot down, though. There are no codes being thrown.
The plugs don't have more than 10k miles on them, the coils and wires are original, and the tune has not changed. I'm assuming it's not a fuel problem because the car runs great to 7k RPMs.
I haven't really done anything yet as far as troubleshooting. Here is my plan:
1) Pull the plugs and look for a problem.
2) Disconnect the battery to reset the ECM.
3) If the problem persists, or the plugs didn't look good, replace the plugs.
4) Review the tune somehow... I guess I'll need to buy HPTuners and a wideband... but I need to make that investment someday anyway.
5) Replace the coils and wires.
Now, when I first noticed this problem, I had issues with the car backfiring. This only happened once, and since then it's just been a mild misfiring problem at an idle. Here is a post that I made in the Gen 3 Internal Engine forum that first day I noticed the problem. It has a very detailed description of what happened.
Can anyone advise me on my troubleshooting steps?
Another thing to add to the list is to clean the K&N. It's been a good, long while, so it might be in dire need as well.
