Default not sure what this means, little help?

hey everyone got some tech questions for you. My rear end recently went out and I found a guy with a rear end out of a 1979 z28 with drum brakes. When I asked him for the gear ratio he told me it was a 17:41. I have never heard of such a ratio, but thats the only number he can find on it. First question is huh? 17:41? Second will this go into my 02 z28, and if so what would be involved?

Don't know, and why not buy something you know will fit without any modifications ?? There are many sponsors on here that could help you out with a bolt in rearend to fit your needs.

No this rear end is set up for leaf springs, it will not work in your car. By the numbers that you have given , the gear ratio comes out to be 2.41. All gears have those numbers, if you divide 17 into 41 that is how you get your ratio.

Thanks for the help guys. I would really love to put in that m9 setup but funds and time have forced me to deal with it asap. Was laid off and used up my savings finding a new place to live. I had a warranty put found out when the dealer sold me the rear end it wasn't stock so they won't pay for it.
