Default Axles....How do I know which one??

Im sure this might be a really dumb question, but I have been looking around the boards and have not really found the answer yet.

Anyway I need to replace one of my axles because i'm sure its bent. How do I know if I have 3 channel or 4 channel axles? I have a 98 TA and I do not have the traction control button, would that make mine a 3 channel?

if you look on the backing plate there will either be a sensor or no sensor... it will have a two wire plug on it. if you have 3 channel the sensor will be on the diff somewere. also if you take off your rotor and there is no abs ring you have 3 channel

You will have to school me as to what and where the backing plate is as I have no clue when it comes to rear end stuff.

That would be awesome. So basically I would be looking right behind the rotors in the rear and if I see a plug/connection coming from it then it is a 4 channel and if I find no plug/connection coming from it and I find a connection to the dif then it is a 3 series.

on the top drivers side of the diff. there will be a plug going down into the diff., if your's has this then it is 3 channel. just climb under and see if there is a connector there.

not to hijack, but arent the axels themselves the same either way? (3 or 4 channel)
reason i ask is the rear i just took out of my car was a 3 channel, but was set up as a 4 channel (meanin, it had the big exciter ring on the pig, sensor on top of the diff, not used,,, and the sensors went to my backing plates and the rings located there...)

(i have 2 stock axels that i would like to get rid of...)
