Used Gears Whining hello.i bought a used set of gears 3.73 and got them professionally installed.gears are g.m. out of a camaro.they are whining at a steady speed and coming to a stop.my installer said all the tolerences were correct and have a good pattern.the bearing that came on the pinion looked really good.also a new crush sleeve was used.i'm bringing it back for him to re-check it tomorrow.anyone else had trouble with used gears.probally going to order some new g.m. gears and get them installed.guess that's what i get trying to cut corner's.
Depending on the brand and how tight it was setup? I built my gear with a guy at work that does it everyday. He set it up with .008 backlash for drag racing and said it is going to make some noise. I did not pay full price for this stuff but I can tell you there is over $2600 in parts in my center section alone and I already know it is going to make some noise. Part of the game I guess.
That's the problem using used gears. They get a wear pattern on them from use. When you put them in a different rear if they aren't set up exactly the same they will be at a different spot and make noise.
