Default solid pinion spacer?

I'm getting ready to install some 4.10's in the stock rear of my 94 trans am. This install kit came with a solid pinion spacer...i have never used one of these before. I have only done a couple sets, but is this worth installing? does it take place of the crush washer? what should be the tightening torque? any other hints/tips? Does anyone have or know of any writeups on gear installs? thanks for any info

IMO, its not really worth much. I wont ever use them again. Major PITA to get the shims right. If you use it, it will take 3-4 tries easily to get the shims right. You torque the hell out of the pinion nut when you are using one of those solid spacers. Theres a decent gear write up at www.differentials.com
