Help with a 10-bolt pattern
Help with a 10-bolt pattern Alright guys, I've started to build a spare housing I had laying around, because the Torsen is about to die, and the gears have been whining for a WHILE now. I've been screwing with it all day, and here's what I have come up with:

Here's the setup on the rear:
-Motive "Orange Box" 3.73's
-Detroit TrueTrac Carrier
-Pinion Shim is .038 in the pics
-Backlash is .009 in the pics
-Pinion preload is between 24 in/lbs and 26 in/lbs.
I know that I could probably button it up and be good at this point. But I'm not happy with anything less than perfection, considering I've been living with gear whine in my daily driver for a LONG TIME now. I don't want this thing to whine.
Can anyone tell me what steps I can take to get this pattern PERFECT? Do I need to move the pinion out a bit more, to about a .40 shim? Do I need to try to nail the backlash at .007?

It looks close. I would say that you could back the pinion off to .037 if you have one and possibly add some back lash depending on the gear set you have. richmond likes a closer back lash than motive. I set my richmond to .006 i beleive and just did a .010 on my motive gear set. The motive set pattern ended up exactly like the install pic for me. Hope this helps a little
