Default The 10 Bolt Worries

I have a 2001 Formula with 23k on the odometer. It is an A4 with the stock 10bolt and 3.23 gears(?). I have added a Magnaflow muffler, and a TSP lid with the Holley Powershot filter. I don't race my car, but I do get on it sometimes.
Question #1. Should I be worried at all with breaking my rear end?
Question #2. Coming from the factory, did this car have the aluminum driveshaft or steel? Which one is better?
Question #3. I know a dyno is the only true accurate way to test, but around what rwhp should I be at?

I know the last question doesn't really belong, but what the hell. Thanks in adavance for the help.

#1, no you shouldnt be worried unless you do hard launches, but with your mods you shouldnt worry about it.
#2, Your car has an aluminum driveshaft, the aluminum driveshaft is slightly better than the steel b/c its not as heavy which means you dont have as much rotating mass which means you will prob dyno 2-3 more hp than a car with a steel one.
#3, I thick you should dyno somewhere b/t 310-315 RWHP, depending on the weather etc. Get a catback and you will see the #s ioncrease.
Good Luck man

#1, No you shouldn't worry about your rear end if you don't launch it hard. They are pretty good for NORMAL use. YES I said NORMAL use.
#2, You're car has an aluminiun drive shaft. It is lighter than steel.
#3, I would say 320 rwhp.
I would not really worry to much, the ten bolt can take some beating from your mods. M6 cars, are the ones that should worry.

Alright, thanks fellas.
I don't really beat her at all, maybe once or twice a tank I floor it from 20-60 or something, but I don't launch. Again, thanks for the information.

Ah heck....my 330+/-rwhp with M6 w/ 4.10's and Kumho Ecstas Supras wouldn't hook anyway, and I get into it a lot. It's when you get close to 400rwhp with sticky tires that things get real bad (or a pot hole on a hard launch).

One correction here...

If your car came with NON-speed rated tires, you have a steel shaft. That's a long shot since MOST 3.23 geared cars came with speed rated tires but it is a possibility. Just grab a magnet and see if it sticks. It won't be attracted to aluminum.

Stock rears behind A4 cars hold up pretty well. Usually into 10 second territory.
