Default Question about gears

My friend has a V6 camaro and is he going to get a V8 rear end off a 98-02 f-body. What are the chances of getting stuck with the 2.73 gears vs 3.23 in the automatics? Were the 2.73 gears only in certain years or is it just random?

Thanks

all SS/autos came with 3.23. i believe the steel driveshafts were on the 2.73 cars. he might be able to spot the driveshaft and tell which gears it has. or just get a 6 speed rear end then he knows he has 3.42s. Or just spin the yoke and count the number of times the tires spin.

Are you saying all autos came with 3.23's? Or only the SS auto's? What about WS6's? Did they have 3.23's in the autos as well?

Were the steel driveshafts only on certain years?

Thanks for the reply!

WS6/SS auto cars came with 3.23 gears. 2.73 gear cars came with steel driveshafts.

He wanted to know if steel driveshafts are exclusive to 98-99 or do 00-02 cars have them too.
