Pinion Angle!! Please Help!!!
Pinion Angle!! Please Help!!! I just finished up installing my Midwest Fab 9 inch rear end. I am trying to set the pinion angle and I am having a hell of a time. Every site or forum I read has different methods and tools to do this task. What is the easiest way to do this? Yes I read the sticky in the Suspension forum but it is also a bit confusing. Please help somebody. Thanks
I read everywhere that people say you need to check the pinion angle against the driveshaft angle and all that though. I read the post where Madman said all you need to do is set the pinion in relation to the ground. I don't know which way to do it. How do you know who is right?
search, search, search....pinion angle has nothing to do with traction issues.
optimal pinion angle is desired to properly phase the u joints. if the engine and tranny are pointed down 3* towards the rear of the car and you set your pinion at 3.5* down towards the front of the car then you have effectively placed 6.5* into the joints which is tooo much. Under load at ride height you want the joints phased as close to neutral as possible to remove harmonics. You put negative degrees into the pinion to take into account chassis/suspension component flex and slop.

what i think 1cdub is talking about is drivline angle which is different from pinion angle.
read these stickys and they will help you out a lot they helped me understand a lot about seting up pinion angle and so on.
i go by madmans way to set it.
