Ford 9 w/a Traclock - problems
I just had to send the 3rd member back because the diff started howling during a 200mi rally cruise with a local club...
TJ over @ TJ's Auto stood by his 90 day warranty and replaced the R&P with a Richmond gear set and shipped it back to me free of charge...
But as it turns out, the traclock was also having problems. I guess the traclock design has 1 side of splines that is 1 piece, while the other side is 2 pieces.
For whatever reason, the inside set of splines on the 2-piece side are almost completely gone. To me, it appears that the two sets of splines are not aligned very well @ all, so one side of the splines is obviously worse than the other side since they had less contact with the splines on the axle.
Can anyone explain why the diff has 2 sets of splines and what it is that each of them does? I'm guessing the inner splines are the side gear and the outside is the clutch pack ring?
Thanks for any help guys.
Also, I'm thinking about sending it back to him and just having him install a truetrac. Will I be happy with that setup? I'm under the impression that the splines are 1-piece on both sides in that diff. Suggestions?
PS - my car puts down about 550WHP on spray. But I'm looking to up the shot. Glad I didn't do that on this crap traclock...
