Default Not aftermarket options

I have a 95 firebird and looking to beef up the rear for the future. Was lookin at a ford 9" but open to options. As far as compatability and fabrication what rear would I be better using? I plan on having about 500-550 rwhp with a t-56. I can weld so the spring perches and stuff dont matter. Thanks.

Sounds like you want to beef up your rearend without buying any aftermarket housings. Thats gonna be tough. Because of the torque arm on our cars, it limits our options to near to none unless you are just super fabication-tastic.

I think GM and aftermarket rearend suppliers are in the sack together..ha.

So thats why most ppl go with aftermarket cause of the torque arms and stuff. Hmm maybe I can get a cheap ford 9 and use the guts and get a aftermarket housing? Would save like about $1000 that way and a stock ford 9 should be plenty strong.

The above Moser housing and axle package works great with the third member (center section) from a junkyard. Just keep in mind the third member won't be as strong as an Moser third member. Bob

With any rear end for our cars, can't you do the ladder bar conversion and eliminate the torque arm completely?

Thats a good question i'd like to know too. Thanks exotic but I heard that the torque arms break on the moser 9's becuase of the bolt setup on the rear? I'm not gonna be racing the car much but if thats true i'm gonna stay away from the moser units. I really like the looks of the m9 the "hexagon" style rears. How much for a housing with 4th gen brackets mounted? I can't do a couple thousand off the batt so have to kind of build up to it, i'd build a rear if I had too, I know it might cost more but it's easier for me to come up with 300 at a time than 3000. I seen currie has some pretty nice stuff.
