Truetrac SUCKS for Drag Racing 6 Speed

With the mods I have listed below and MT ET Streets (bias ply), I bent the splines on the driver side axle and put a bunch of cuts on the worm gears.

I knew something was wrong when every time I would accelerate out of a slow turn I would hear and feel a loud pop or two coming from the rear.

This is after only using it for 1.5 seasons and 20-30 runs per season. I didn't use the nitrous for most of the runs, but I did do second gear burnouts. The best 60' was 1.7 I think (I'm still learning).

What sucks is that Moser recommended these parts for my power level and they're not standing behind them. I guess its the chance you take for dragracing.

So, now I'm gonna spend 900 parts and labor for a spool.

Glad I'm going with the spool.

I have a Tru Trac for the street, and another Center Section setup with a Spool for the Track.

Moser isn't standing behind their parts... Surprise :eyes:

My 12-bolt had about 1000-1500 miles on it when the pinion bearing ate itself and let the pinion go into the ring gear while cruising on the highway in 6th at about 70.

They set everything up and said I didn't need to check anything, just put it in the car. I called them up and kept getting handed to everybody's supervisor only to end up finding out that the "warranty" they have basically only covers the parts until you put them on the car. If I had the money, I'd yank the moser 12 bolt out and slap a strange 9" in there in a heartbeat...

Update on this
https://ls1tech.com/forums/drag-raci...0-6-128-a.html

After racing all summer on the same setup, on my street wheels (275 16" DRs) getting mostly 1.65, and a few low 1.6s with the truetrac. With the spool and the summit 3way rear shocks, car consitantly gets high/high 1.59 1.58s 60's the oeny time out with it so far. But on the drag tires, picked up almost a full tenth so far 2 times out. Mid 1.5s all day, gotten 2-3 1.53s and 1 1.51 out of a full summer of racing on the truetrac. With the spool, got right into the 1.4s 1st time. And Mid 1.4s back to back, best a 1.43. And this is my 2nd year racing on the same pair of 28x10.5x15S ETdrags, still have tread but I'm sure the side walls are getting worn, and a freah set would be a improvment.

SPOOL all the way if you want to go fast. :D

Shame all you guys have to run a spool. If your a 9" or an 8.8 guy run the T-Loc they are tough as hell

when i ordered my center chunk for my moser rear, i went with a spool, because i was told my options for what i want to do was either a locker or spool. i had a locker once & will never go back to that

6 speeds put a hurting on parts. I knew I would break my posi if I took it to the track so I upgraded to a spool before I hurt the posi. So I'm good now cause I have a spool right........no.....I ended up blowing my gears apart doing 6,500 RPM clutch dumps and pulling 1.45 60ft's now I have a set of pro gears in the car so it's track only for now. Wish I knew from day 1 that I would take the car to this level cause it would have had a 9" or a dana 60 in it
