When the pinion seal is set in the rear end, when I put the yoke on the pinion and set the preload it rips seal and creates a hang up when I turn the pinion, this is the second pinion seal I have gone through ![Bang Head](https://ls1tech.com/forums/images/smilies/LS1Tech/gr_banghead.gif)
anyone have any suggestions, comments, concerns.....

What is causing it to rip? If the pinion is off centered bc its not supported then reach around inside the housing and push it forward as you are tightening the nut to give it support.

The pinion is seated in the bearings already so i dont have to support it, once i tighten the yolk down to the seal and start compressing the crush sleeve is when it rips it

Some pinion seals have the lip facing out, some have them facing inward. I cant remember which one you have. If you have the lip facing outward, make sure the pinion does catch it and force it in by mistake. Also, before install, with a little of the unused gear fluid, freshen the seal with it to make them permeable to the install. Even though your bearings are installed, they may not be seated properly inside of the race. Improper bearing seating can lead to this as well. No pinion load thats not square will cause you to rip right through seals and/or leaks later during driving. Also, back off on your preload if ring is already set in and gauge pinion load for proper lashing.

My stock rear end had a "second seal" that was slid over the yoke that needed to be removed. I'm not sure how to explain it much better then that, but I fubar'd a few pinion seals before I figured it out.
