Default I have a question about the auburn diff.

my rear end blew the other day.. spider gears are shot... i have a 99 ss with the torsen diff. 3.42 gears. im about to pick up an auburn diff. cause its basically free, comes with 4.10 gears, and i dont have a lot of money. will this directly bolt into my housing?? or is there more stuff im going to need to buy to make it work? or would i be better off keeping the torsen and just replace the spider gears?? no labor cost.. i work at a shop.

It will fit but it needs to match as far as trac control or not. If it matches with what your car came with, it would be a lot easier. No traction control is called 3 channel, with trac is called 4 channel. You can do some searches to see the difference in the two. But yes physically it will bolt right in with no issue.

Just hurt my Torsen after small bit of wheelhop at the track Oct. 30th.
Second time it hopped in about 70-75 passes.
Car is an A4 w/ 3200 TCI & DR's.
Very Small chips in "spiral" spyder gears. Clunking/Binding on slow speed turns.
Couldn't find any rebuild kits even after much looking, including www.torsen.com

Got a Carbon Clutches type Eaton Brand (non GM Gov-Lok) priced right thru a connection. My 3.73's were fine.
New Timken Bearing,Races & Stackable shims.

FYI: All installed around .007-.008 at all three points. Nice & Quiet compared to the .005-.0065 before (Gears were installed for Orig. owner before I bought car. Thought noise was normal...lol

How about your gears? They Ok?

Traction control has two sensors, one at the back of each wheel. Non-trac cars have only one sensor, its in the top of the center chunk. None by the wheels. So basically be looking for the hole in the top of the center case. Easiest way to tell.

im not really worried about the noise the gears make... im kinda more about performance than comforts and looks.. but my stock gears look fine. the only thing wrong are the spider gears are toasted. through my job i can get new spider gears for about $115.. but i found an auburn diff complete with 4.10 gears and all.. in really good condition for a little bit more.. and i figured it would be worth it for the gears alone.. but then i read about how 98 came with auburn and 99 up came with torsen.. and people seem to like the torsen one better... which is why im wondering if i should just stick with my diff and fix it..

Wow! you found a Torsen rebuild kit? That's great!

I researched a bit online both here and elsewhere, and the general consensus was that the Torsen unit was more suited for Road Racing than Drag Racing.

Tho if you can rebuild your's for less, keep in mind whether it's Auburn, Eaton Brand or GM "Gov Lok" factory Eaton types, atleast you know it's "hit or miss" on how long any of these diff's in a 7.5" 10 Bolt will last anyway. Especially with sticks...
