Default Clunking after 9 inch install

I just installed a moser 9 inch with 35 sp axles, a detroit locker, and a PST driveshaft with 1350 U joints and billet slip yoke. There is a clunking when i load/unload the drive line. It seems smooth when it's loaded and at a constant speed. Im not sure but i think it might be a u joint. Does anyone have any bright ideas?

The clunking is normal with a locker. It is not as noticeable with an automatic, but with a manual it will be more evident. Bob

Are you running a 6 speed? If so, you'll need to shift faster or more delayed then the norm. 6 speed synchros dont like the lockers. They start off getting notchy and then start grinding.

maybe 'cos it unloads and loads the rear end between shifts while the auto doesn't

Don't do it. You will break something. It's after you do your burnout, you pop the clutch/mash the gas on an auto outside of the water box. Draag racers used to do it years ago, but discovered that it actually cools the tires back down and breaks stuff. More cars broke before the starting line than after it.

Thanks for all the replies. I do have a 6 speed. I guess i should have done a little more research before i went with a locker. I'm gonna try to live with it and see how it goes. Otherwise I'm thinking about a wavetrack. Anyone wanna buy a Detroit locker that's gonna have 500 break in miles on it?

I guess I'll get used to it. I'm gonna put it on the dyno to see how much i lost. I'm thinking a 9 might not have alot more loss than a loose as hell 7.6. I had 345 and 358 before. It's gonna be the same dyno but a different day so i might not get a good answer but we will see. It should be enough to beat my friend's mustang.

i have been thinking of getting a wavetrack too i just cant stand all the clunking and noise making. I also run a 6 speed and i prefer to keep my tranny and everthing else as healthy but maintain my performance built as well. Any suggestions where i should pick one up??
