Driveshaft material question
Driveshaft material question I have a 3.5" aluminum DS now and my buddy wants to buy it for $200. Is it worth selling and getting an ACPT carbon fiber DS? I hear that rotating mass reduction counts for a lot, but do you think there are gains to be seen by doing this swap, or will they be minimal for the money? Please let me know what you think. If there are gains to be seen, I don't mind dishing out the loot.

Will it give you a tenth? No. A twentieth? Doubt it. You might feel a little SOTP benefit because the rotating weight is less and that will give a quicker throttle response. But it seems that the main advantage is safety. If it goes away on you, it won't be tearing into your floor pan.
ACPT makes them 3.5". I ordered one thru LS1 Speed and it should be here today. PST makes one that is 3.75". Would have went with them, but I needed the DS today and PST is closed until next week.
