3rd gen 9bolt?
3rd gen 9bolt? ok heres the deal i have a 99 t/a i know that a 3rd gen rear will bolt in my car i know they are narrower than my stock rear. my question is is a 3rd gen 9bolt (borg warner?) rear stronger than our 10bolts. i can pick one up pretty cheap but i dont wanna get it if its not gonna be any stronger than my stock one. also with the rear being narrower than my stock would 3rd gen rims work with the rear on my car with out rubbing or maybe my old school camaro/ vette rallies i have a 69 camino with about 3-4 sets of rims i would like to use some of them on my t/a if i could with the 3rd gen rear. any help would be appreciated.
If the BW 9 bolt is any stronger than the 10 bolt, it's not by much. They've pretty much got the same size ring gear and 28 spline axles, if it's got a posi it's a crappy cone type that wear out quick. Only thing better is the 9 bolt has bolt in axle retention instead of c-clips. Parts are expensive too since they're not common......I personally wouldn't waste your time.
