Default So that's why it was making noise...

Founds some bits on the magnet in my 12-bolt. Glad I JBWelded a magnet in there! (the Moser rear cover does not come with one). Rear end started making noise a while back (deceleration whine). Sounded like something had 'loosened up' back there.

I *think* it's a shim from the driver's side of the carrier. Another shim was a tad bit warped, and had some scuffing on it.

Hope to have the spool installed by later this weekend.

Damn! does the carrier bearings look ok?
The other shim in there is tore up?
What about the other side if carrier?
I would be worried about how the shim got out of there.

Carrier bearings looked OK, but I'm putting a spool in, with new bearings anyway. Posi is coming out.

There were multiple shims on that side. I've never set up a rear end before, but there were two large ones (outers), and then probably 4 or 5 thin shims inbetween the two - and one of those multi-pack were scuffed, and that's where I think this shim may have come from. Not sure if that's "the way" to do it or not (I didn't set them up, my buddy did), but when I do it this next time, I'll try to do it with as few shims as possible (I figure 1 thick is better than 4 or 5 thin, right? ).

Naturally using one large shim instead of a few thinner ones is better. Also make sure you have enough preload on the side bearings, if the carrier just slides in and out easy the shims will move around and get chewed up.

Yah, make sure the bearings have enough preload when you reassemble with the new parts.
