mark the nut AND the end of the pinion then count the number of turns to remove the nut once removed pry out the seal, drive in the new seal, reinstall the nut be sure and count the turns to tighten to the VERY spot it was tighten to before, then turn about 3-5 degrees. The rear should be taken down, But this is the easy way I would replace it, and most other installers also. You may want to try and search for other advice.

Make sure you get the right size seal too before you put it all back together, I didn the first time I did one and I wound up dumping about twenty bucks worth of diff fluid all over my head and down my back while I was refilling it, outside diameter was right but inside was too big and I was in a hurry. I had to smell like diff fluid for three more hours of school and nine hours of work directly after that, get the right size the first time

2002 I think is the only year that used the larger seal. I didn't realize this and Auto-Bone had the same seal for all years. Almost trashed my rearend after the yoke ripped the seal apart and started puking fluid. Thank god I noticed it before it was too late!
